India has banned more 47 Chinese originated apps after a month banning 59 Chinese applications. These Chinese apps were acting as the lite versions of previously banned apps like Tiktok Lite, Bigo live lite, helo lite, VFY lite, Shareit lite, etc ( apps banned under the act of 69A of Information and Technology Act ). A list of Chinese apps banned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will be released soon.
According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Official – “ the apps were found to be operating despite the ban via these versions. They have been taken down from applications store “ News18 reported.
Over 275 apps under data security check:-
India has also prepared a list of over 250 apps including more apps to form Alibaba groups that have been previously banned in India – clean master, cheetah apps group, etc. The government will examine their privacy for a user’s data. If these apps don’t come under security violations, then only they can stay on the Indian applications store.
According to sources, this list of apps may also contain many popular games all over the world i.e Tencent backed gaming app – PUBG. The Chinese apps that are being reviewed have allegedly been sharing data with Chinese Agencies. Some other apps like Aliexpress, ByteDance’s Resso , Unlike, Ludo world, and Xiaomi’s Zili – media report suggested
When the government banned 59 Chinese apps back in June, they have been asked about 70 questions regarding data breaching, if they fail to answer then there would be no chance coming back to India by any means. The government said that – these apps were part in activities that were prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity, and defense of India
Further, these firms were asked about their data sharing norms with Chinese agencies, irrespective of where they operate.
